Two thumbs up for chilean architecture

Another example of break-through architecture in Santiago´s outskirts executed by Max Lopez and Bernardo Valdez, an architecture that bears the stamp of Santiago´s mountanious' surroundings to which this house is no exception, embracing nature in a very special way

White and grey harmony define this pleasant environment

Bruno Reymond , owner of Ibiza shop La Maison de l´Elephant, has applied in the refurbishment of this flat a calm and quiet chromatic game achieving a feeling of harmonious continuity and placidity between the different atmospheres. Are there any other colours you would have paired down white to achieve such a relaxed laid back feeling? Please leave your comment below if you feel differently or if otherwise you think he has done a great job. Personally,I think the pair works if the goal is one of utter relaxation, However it would be interesting seeing how playing with colours would have worked out. Maybe in a more cheerful environment.....

A technically-successful collection of lighting from a young French designer, with a characteristic red cable (‘Ariadne’s thread’). Titanium-coloured steel structure; white opal PMMA shade; red fabric cable.
Energy-saving lights providing soft light. By Ligne roset

The collection includes table, floor and wall lamps.

“Ariane is a range of lamps composed of a plastic lampshade interacting with metallic structures,” says Larmaraud.  “A long, red cable winds, undulates and really defines the shape of each product.”

This is what Foscarini, a classic when it comes to industrial lighting has to say in reference to Tropico

"

Here is what Foscarini has to say about the Tropico lighting range

“Tropico is a modular system that enables the easy alteration of a mass produced product to create luminous hanging lamps in different shapes and sizes.  Inspired by traditional crystal chandeliers, Tropico is composed of a series of small faceted pieces that form a larger whole; like classic cut crystal, these pieces are capable of catching and throwing light and shadow in a magical fashion.”

Whilst the designer of the product Lacchetti said “Part of my vision was to suggest a lamp that was inspired by traditional Murano glass chandeliers—a bridge-building object that would be strongly rooted in the contemporary world but which would evoke a common memory and thus, a connection with the past,”

It seems that the partnership of Lacchetti and Foscarini was a match made in heaven because of the way their ideas fit together so well. Foscarini describe themselves as a company “Offering lighting designed to improve our environment, both in terms of aesthetic values and of quality of light, is the objective of Foscarini. The company is renowned for its innovation pursued through collaboration with high-profile designers, research and experimentation with materials. Founded in 1983 by Carlo Urbinati and Alessandro Vecchiato, Foscarini has a product-oriented corporate culture. Having the essential function of producing light, Foscarini’s lamps each exhibit a distinctive personality that shines whether it is illuminated or not.”

The Double Bubble series of lamps is one of the most recent designs by the celebrated Finnish designer Eero Aarnio.
The Double Bubble lamp is available in three sizes - two table lamps and one sculptural standing lamp.
The Double Bubble comes in three sizes, two table lamps and one monumental standing lamp.

Initially created from blown glass, the Double Bubble was ultimately cast in plastic to ensure durability and uniform color of light.

To evenly light the curvy surface, each lamp is fitted with three light sources: one in each bubble and one in the leg. To complement the light slightly stronger lamps are used in the larger of the bubbles.

All lamps are made to meet the European Economic Area standards and are CE-marked. Bulbs and transformers used are for 220-240V/50Hz AC power.
Available at Double bubble

Red Dot design award for 2009  awarded to James Irvvine whose work has been hailed by the press as for example Wallpaper in the following terms

"

ames Irvine is a British designer based in Milan, having upped sticks as soon as his mortarboard hit the floor following his graduation from London’s Royal College of Art in the early 1980s. Starting out as a consultant to Olivetti design in 1984, Irvine established his practice in 1988, counting Cappellini and SCP among his first clients. Irvine and his five-strong studio have since developed an unshakeable reputation for elegant, functional work. Among his numerous achievements, Irvine today finds time to act as creative director of bent-wood furniture company Thonet, as well as being a design consultant to Japanese design house Muji. Ever efficient, Irvine recently engineered a collaboration between the two and launched a series of chairs supported by a single, bowed panel, and equally simple tables. Last year, he was behind the multifaceted ‘Casino’ shelving system for Galerie Kreo and the wonderfully simple ‘Irvine w082’ desk lamp for Wästberg; this year will see a pop-up shop for Phaidon in London’s Piccadilly. Technically sophisticated and aesthetically unfussy, Irvine’s work is about good design, not the sound of bells and whistles.

Company: James Irvine Furniture and Industrial Design
Established:1988

Door Selections: Openings, materials and aesthetics systems join forces to offer the best choice

The Quadrante doors system designed by Giuseppe Bavuso for Rimadesio is equipped with solutions that provide functionlity. Invisible hinges, equipped with a system of springs that guarantee assembly times extremely reduced and offer the possibility of reversing the sense of opening with no change in its structure. The telescopic jambs allow to cancel the grossor difference between the walls.
